Historical Family Event. Date: Saturday, September 16, 2017 Location: Sampson/Clark log Toll House, 5302 West Pike Street, Murrysville, PA Time: 11:00 - 5:00 Admission: Free
Come along and bring a pocket full of pennies for use as you pass through the “gate”. Plan to spend the day at the Sampson/Clark Toll House when the renovated log house was a wagon and coach stop for travelers along the great northern turnpike. In January, 1819 then Gov. Findlay signed a charter incorporating the Pittsburgh and New Alexandria Turnpike Company. Although the 1790s house predates use as a toll house, the pike was in daily use connecting communities of New Alexandria, Delmont, Export, Newlonsburg, Murrysville, Monroeville and Wilkensburg. To pay for construction and maintenance, tolls were collected as travelers passed thru the gate. Engage in a day of activites around a busy once upon a time toll house!
